Explore the essential knowledge of becoming an expert witness to the court, including the role and duties of the expert, how to set fees, and how the legal profession views experts.

Attendees will explore both the meaning of the term “Expert Witness” as well as the responsibilities which the role entails.

Information will be given on the all important business aspects of being an Expert Witness, including how to approach the legal profession for work, how to be realistic about fee scales, and how to best understand the requirements of the Legal Aid Agency.

Throughout the workshop the constant ethical tensions between being a practitioner psychologist and expert witness will also be considered and addressed.

Target audience

This workshop is intended for HCPC registered practitioner psychologists or those towards the completion of their accredited training.

It is particularly suitable for those considering embarking on practice as an Expert Witness but will also be a useful refresher for those who may have found themselves unexpectedly taking on this role.
