A new study shows that, whilst a well-judged joke in the workplace can be beneficial to our personal status, poor humour can have negative consequences.
Previous research has shown that the use of humour in the office can increase productivity and creativity, help to build trust and is broadly beneficial.
The findings of a new study in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, however, have delved deeper into the effects of the use of humour on our personal status at work.
Whilst the potentially positive impact of a good gag was again observed, the researchers also investigated the negative reaction to a particularly inappropriate joke.
