The society makes a number of awards available each year to recognise excellence in research, practice teaching and education in psychology.
Awards and grants
These awards range from those meant for undergraduates to those marking achievement over the length of a professional career.
Some of these awards are for our members only, but many are open to all psychologists working within the UK.

Award for Innovation in Practice
This annual award is aimed at psychologists in recognition of a particularly innovative and creative project design and/or delivery in practice, and will be open to pilot programmes or projects of any size showing particular innovation.
This award can be made to psychologists at any stage in their career.
Nominations will close at 10am on 2nd December 2019.
Award for Distinguished Contribution to Practice
This annual award recognises practitioner psychologists for work that has made an outstanding and lasting contribution to a particular area, for the benefit of people and organisations.
This award will likely be made to a psychologist in mid to late career.
Nominations will close at 10am on 2nd December 2019.
Lifetime Achievement in Psychology Award
This annual award recognises and celebrates exceptional and sustained contributions in a career as a practitioner psychologist.
It is anticipated that this award will be made to a psychologist near or after the end of their career.
Nominations will close at 10am on 2nd December 2019.
Lifetime Achievement
Open to those who have an outstanding record of personal achievement and have also made significant contributions to the advancement of psychological knowledge.
Presidents’ Award
Given in recognition of exceptional contributions to psychological knowledge.
Spearman Medal
Awarded in recognition of outstanding published work in psychology.
Doctoral Award
This award recognises outstanding contributions to psychological knowledge by postgraduate research students made while carrying out research for their doctoral degrees in psychology.
Book Award
This award recognises excellent published work in psychology.
William Inman Prize
The William Inman Prize recognises published articles on the effect of psychological factors upon physical conditions, particularly psychodynamic or psychotherapeutic factors and to conditions of the eye.
The award is made every 5 years, and the next award will be in in 2025.
Technical Support in Psychological Research Award
An annual award, made jointly by the Society and the Association of Technical Staff in Psychology, recognising the valuable role that technicians play in supporting research in psychology.
Award for Promoting Equality of Opportunity
This award recognises a person has made a significant contribution to challenging social inequalities in the UK.

International Conference Symposium Scheme
This scheme provides funding for Society Member Networks to convene a symposium at an international conference.

Early Career Conference Bursary Scheme
This provides bursaries to support early-career psychologists to attend an academic conference in the UK orinternationally.

Joint Postgraduate Award with the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology
This provides an opportunity for a postgraduate psychologist to be seconded to the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology to assist in providing briefing material for MPs and peers.

Undergraduate Research Assistantship Scheme
This scheme awards grants to researchers to allow them to provide undergraduates with hands on experience of research and encourage them to consider an academic career.

Postgraduate Study Visit Scheme
This enables research students who are registered for a doctoral degree at a UK university to undertake a study visit to another institution to acquire skills directly relevant to their research.

Early Career Study Visit Scheme
To enable early career researchers and lecturers who are within eight years of the completion of their doctoral research degree in psychology to undertake a study visit to another institution to acquire skills directly relevant to their research/lecturing.

Research Seminar Competition
These grants enable institutions to co-operate to hold scientific seminars.

Sections Meetings and Events Support Fund
This scheme provides funding for Society Sections to undertake new initiatives.
