This event brings together education providers and practitioners to discuss how they have utilised psychology across a range of marketing roles. Through our panel of speakers we will explore psychology can be the perfect route into further study or careers in this area.

Delegates will gain insight into how they can utilise a psychology degree in marketing roles, this will include understanding how to apply their learning in a variety of marketing careers with insight from recent alumni, employers and education providers.

Paurav Shukla

Paurav Shukla is Professor of Marketing and Head of Digital and Data Driven Marketing Department at the Southampton Business School, University of Southampton, UK. His research highlights the hidden meanings and associations embedded within consumption practices across cultures and offers novel insights for researchers and practitioners. Paurav's career began in industry, and he continues to work hand in hand with academic institutions and corporate organizations in the capacity of visiting professor, advisor and board of directors. He has published many articles in top-tier academic journals and popular accounts of his work have appeared in the BBC, the Sunday Times, the Guardian, Luxury Society, and LiveMint Wall Street Journal and many other international outlets. He has consulted for global consumer brand firms such as Unilever, GSK, Zurich insurance; leading as well as budding digital companies including iCrossing, Mavens, Urban Rivals, CGEye; International luxury, fashion brands Spiewak, Stella, Lillie Design; large financial and insurance firms ICICI Prudential, and Life Insurance Corporation of India, among others.

Debbie Keeling 

Debbie Keeling is Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor (Knowledge Exchange) and Professor of Marketing in the University of Sussex Business School. She is also the Director of the ESRC Impact Acceleration Account for the University of Sussex. Debbie previously held academic positions at the School of Business and Economics, Loughborough University and Manchester Business School, the University of Manchester. Prior to this she ran her own successful research company and held researcher positions on funded projects. With a background in psychology, Debbie has more than 25 years’ experience of research in health and social care, market-facing technologies and, more recently, enablement in B2B channels. She is Regional Editor (EMEA) for the European Journal of Marketing. She also serves on the Editorial Review Boards of Psychology and Marketing and the Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice, and the Advisory Board of Emerald Open Research. She has authored 100+ scientific papers, public and private reports and chapters and regularly speaks at national and international events, including Practice-Based Leadership Forums in the UK, USA and Australia. 

Soumia Chajai 

Serial Entrepreneur, Digital Marketing and Neuromarketing Specialist. 

Founder and CEO of Millenia-Lab, first Consumer Behavior and Neuromarketing Consulting Agency in North Africa.  

Founder and Chef of Crêpe Lingo, first fast-crêperie in Marrakesh, Morocco.

Alan Gilbert

Alan Gilbert Is a Chartered Organizational Psychologist, past Chair of the BPS Wessex Branch and active committee member.  In addition to business consultancy, Alan is an adjunct Professor at Southampton Business School and for the past seven years has supervised MSc Marketing dissertations. 

This experience has informed the initiative to create this event on Marketing Psychology.  Only about 20% of psychology graduates become practising psychologists but the knowledge and competencies developed through their degree programme would make a significant contribution to the profession of marketing and provide an interesting career opportunity.
