HCPC Standards of Proficiency

19 June 2020

We would like your views on proposed changes to the HCPC Standards of proficiency for Practitioner Psychologists.

The HCPC is the UK regulator for psychologists and protects 7 titles of practitioner psychologist: clinical, counselling, educational, forensic, health, occupational and sport and exercise.

The HCPC regulates 15 different healthcare professionals, including psychologists, and are reviewing the standards of proficiency for all of them.

The standards of proficiency, which set out what is considered necessary for safe and effective practice, describe what professionals must know, understand and be able to do at the time they apply to join the HCPC Register.

There are proposed changes to both the generic and profession-specific standards, following engagement and feedback from stakeholders last year.
