Psychologists commenting on public figures

13 January 2020

We are aware of recent concerns raised about psychologists commenting on public figures in the media.

While it would be inappropriate at this stage to comment on any individual member, we do have a Code of Ethics and Conduct that we expect members to be guided by in their work as a psychologist.

We have also produced specific professional standards for psychologists working with the media.

Where complaints are received regarding an individual member they will be considered under our member conduct rules and, if necessary, appropriate action can be taken.

This can include a range of sanctions.

Anyone with concerns that a member of the BPS has breached our Code can contact us with their concerns.
