On the 19th of January BPS President Peter Kinderman gave the keynote speech to the 2017 Division of Clinical Psychology Conference, addressing the relationships between psychology, politics, and public service.
Over the course of his speech Professor Kinderman touched upon a variety of issues, including the responsibilities of psychologists in the world, the impact of politics (and politicians) on our psychology, both as individuals and in groups, and the nature (and criticisms) of the Society's role in the wider political sphere, stating:
"I believe that psychology has a vital place in politics. And I would argue at the centre of politics. But we aren’t alone, and that is important in thinking about the role of psychologists, and clinical psychologists in particular."
