Core Skills Workshops

Our core workshop programme offers CPD to help you develop your professional capability.

It is applicable across all of the applied areas of psychology and currently consists of workshops on supervision skills, working as an expert witness, and working as an independent practitioner.

These workshops are usually run a number of times throughout the year.

For more information, please select the appropriate tab below.

This series of four workshops is designed to help supervisors to develop, reflect on and refine their own personal practice, tailored to their own personal approach, the context in which they work, and the needs of their client groups.

The sessions are spread out to allow time for reflection and practice, and each workshop offers multiple sessions to enable you to arrange things to suit your schedule.

Completion of this series of four workshops confers eligibility to apply for entry onto the Society's Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors (RAPPS), which is designed to recognise Chartered psychologists with special expertise in supervision.

Growing numbers of psychologists work in private practice either as an adjunct to their other clinical jobs, or as their primary professional practice, however the skills for working in private practice are seldom taught on training courses and qualified practitioners must often rely on their own resourcefulness and ingenuity to develop a successful practice.

As a result this workshop is designed to cover the challenges and pitfalls of working as an independent practitioner.

The ideas and skills developed in this interactive workshop will cover a wide range of practical issues and skills designed to help you to develop your own style as a practitioner and to translate this into a commercially successful and ethically driven private practice.

Our e-learning courses provide a flexible and convenient learning solution, available for a year from purchase, allowing you to revisit the courses and their resources anytime, anywhere.

The courses put you in charge – you can learn what you want, when you want, in a style that suits you.

Taking a social approach, the courses encourage you to learn from other learners as well as the expert authors. As well as being engaging, they are relevant; they are intended to compliment your psychology training and support our members to succeed in the world of work, covering professional skills, management and business development topics.

Many of our members undertake these courses and we continually review and update the offering based on your feedback.

What courses are available?

This series of e-learning modules was developed in response to the Autism Act (2009) and the subsequent strategy for adults with autism, Fulfilling and Rewarding Lives.

The autism strategy aims to increase understanding by improving awareness for all frontline public service staff, in line with their job needs, and developing specialist training for staff in health and social care.

These modules won gold in the 2012 e-learning awards for ‘Excellence in the production of learning content’ and have been delivered to over 15,000 learners so far.

Not sure if e-learning is for you?

Why not take a look at our e-learning CPD courses guide to get an idea of how these courses work?

You can also try out a module - Strategy and You - from one of the courses for free, so as to get a taste of what to expect.
