Support and Deliver CPD

There are several ways for our members to get involved in supporting professional development, from delivering CPD workshops to acting as a reviewer and assessing submitted proposal abstracts.

If you are a BPS Group considering arranging or running some professional development activities, please get in touch with the Professional Development Centre Manager to discuss how we can support you.

If you are an external organisation who organises CPD activities (such as training events, conferences or online learning) then why not consider having them approved by the BPS?

Could you run a workshop for us?

Workshop proposals are currently being sought in the following topic areas:

Autism

For example:

  • Forensic models of sexual and violent offending as applied to brain injury

  • Brain development, and effects of adversity, illness and injury

  • Screening and assessment

  • Accessing advice/supervision: vulnerable young people / adults in criminal justice

  • Training of other staff

  • Interventions

  • Traumatic Brain Injury and ADHD

Children & Young People's Mental Health

    For example:

    • Working with people with dementia – best practice

    • Living with co-morbidities, depression, personality disorder & other mental health difficulties

    • Psychological interventions

    • Issues around rights and inclusion, and how these can inform best practice

      For example:

      • Best practice in palliative and end-of-life care

      • How to manage end of life experiences

        For example:

        • Capacity to consent

        • Best interest decisions

        The Mental Health Act

          For example:

          • Integrating psychological evidence into obesity services

          Public Mental Health

          Research Excellence Framework

          For example:

          • How to deal with historic sexual abuse

          • Child protection – best practice

          • Safeguarding vulnerable adults – best practice

          Work and Health

          • Writing for publication in non-academic outlets

          We are looking for members to act as reviewers to consult over proposals.

          This is a voluntary role for those willing to contribute their time to the peer review process for submitted abstracts and to help maintain the quality assurance of our CPD programme.

          The CPD Approval Scheme is the Society’s model of approving programmes or events that meet our stringent ethical, professional, and practical standards.

          It enables CPD providers, including HE institutions, to have their programmes or events approved by the BPS, and offers a great opportunity to attract more delegates and gain access to our 50,000+ members through our approved CPD directory.

          The Professional Development Centre is looking to deliver a series of webinars on the topic of obesity.

          Submissions are sought on the following topic areas:

          • current, innovative theories & frameworks from psychological science
          • psychologically informed behaviour change interventions and initiatives
          • the impact of stigma & bias on clinical practice and service delivery.

          Guidelines for submissions

          The submission system will ask you to complete the following sections:

          Overview An outline of your proposed session
          Learning Outcomes Up to 5 learning outcomes for the session
          Target Audience Any pre-requisites in terms of knowledge or experience required
          Theory A brief summary of the recent psychological theory underpinning the submission
          Ethics & Professionalism How will you demonstrate high professional and ethical standards?
          Facilitator Please provide a brief biography

          Your submission should total no more than 1000 words (exclusive of the title). Tables, images and file uploads are allowed.

          Submissions will close on the 12th of January 2018 and we will look to deliver the sessions in the spring.
